"All Sales Are Final?!||323735"

Hi Angie and Carol, Before I place a bid on these LV items, I'd like a second opinion: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=968268977&rd=1 I wrote the following message to the seller: "I noticed that 'All Sales Are Final,' but if I win this auction and the items are not authentic, would you still allow me to return them for a full refund? Do you have any more photos of these bags?" The seller responded: "Hi. Okay, I have to stand firm on my All Sales Final...No Returns etc. I have the receipt here & the bag was purchased new from Neiman Marcus on 2-8-01 so I promise it is authentic. It belongs to my Mother, the Queen of Vuittons :) I am attaching a few pics for your viewing. Thanks so much !!" I will attach her pictures in this mail. First of all, do her pictures look like authentic LV bucket and pouch? Second, I reviewed her feedbacks and her other items on auction. She seems pretty honest. I don't see any other LV items on her sales list so I assume that she doesn't sell fakes for a living! Third, if her LV's are authentic, then why wouldn't she guarentee for refund? Thank you so much for your help! I feel like I should pay you for your services!!! Lily p.s. Angie, could you please attach the pictures on here? Thanks. "2002-10-14 Lily"

"All Sales Are Final?!||323751"

Attached are the photos for Message #323735. By the way, except a question about the rivet on the D-ring, this bag appears authentic. I will check a couple of sources and get back to you. "2002-10-14 Poupette"

"All Sales Are Final?!||324003"

Can two different bucket bags have the same code number? My earlier message titled "All Sales Are Final" has the code SD1020... and the following bucket for auction has the same code number, check it out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=967869487 "2002-10-15 Lily"

"All Sales Are Final?!||324048"

I have not looked at the auction, yet, but yes, two items can have the same date code. "2002-10-15 Poupette"

Hi, does this seem authentic to you? Please help! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=970513431 "2002-10-17 Lily"

"Authentic?||325054"

Hi. Compare with the photos here:http://www.my"Poupette.com/lvellbp.html "2002-10-17 Poupette"

"Authentic?||325060"

ask for a copy of the eluxury reciept. get in writing what they mean by "guaranteed authentic" does that mean they will refund your entire purchase price -- including the s/h? be careful though, the seller says they bought a fake one before the real one, and if that's the case wouldn't they have known then that the size was inappropriate for them? Also they never registered a negative feedback (see feedback about others) to the supposed person who sold them the fake. buying high ticket items and "authentic" items on eBay is something you have to invest some time in - check a sellers feedback, feedback about others, what they have recently purchased (sometimes you will find a round-trip sale) and what items they sold or listed for sale in the last month. This last piece - checking their listing history will give you valuable insight into those folks who claim the item is from an "estate". Really? an "estate" with 12 of the same item? odd? or dishonest? Furthermore prehaps the pictures are of the "real" bag but the one that will be sent to you is the fake one -- Contact the seller - any seller who won't communicate with you when you are considering sending them any amount of money is not interested in having a business relationship. as a last resort, remember, eBay now offers "bid retraction" I recently had my first bid retraction because after contacting the seller I placed my bid, then she started sending me very strange emails, warning me to "beware the unknown seller" and to ignore their emails (WEIRD!)I tried to contact her many times after that to clarify but - hmmm - she didn't respond until after I retracted my bid -- 2 days after the weird emails started coming. I was uncomfortable about going through with the transaction. "2002-10-17 gabrielle"

"Authentic?||325148"

Gabrielle, THANK YOU thank you THANK YOU so much for your reply! I'm in the process of communicating with the seller. I think I've asked all the appropriate questions you proposed. I'll keep you updated! "2002-10-17 Lily"

"Legit serial #||325260"

Help!! I think I got a fake. The serial number stamped on it is #SR0080-can anyone tell me if this is legit?? "2002-10-17 Kim"

"Legit serial #||325281"

That is certainly a correct format for a LV serial number(aka date code.) "2002-10-17 Barb"

I agree! "2002-10-18 Carol"

"LET`S BOOT THESE CON ARTISTS OFF eBay||325381"

Let's Boot these Con Artists off eBay together!!!! I know that reporting these jokers to eBay can be frustrating at times, but if we do this one in numbers maybe it will make them take action quicker. These auctions are well planned and cunning. If we help even one person it will be worth the effort. LOUIS LOVERS UNITE! The seller pay less (2) with glasses, has ten items up for grabs going for some hefty prices. I've reported all ten auctions to eBay. The auctions are 970086663 970298361 970298666 970300519 970300954 970301065 970571679 970582163 970585007 970587316. Can Louis Vuitton investigate these people in some way, re selling counterfeit goods. As eBay is international could it be reported to Louis Vuitton for investigation? Let me know please. I want these jerks knuckles rapped severely. "2002-10-18 lynloveslouis"

"LET`S BOOT THESE CON ARTISTS OFF eBay||325431"

LV's New York HQ tells me there is a division devoted solely to tracking down and prosecuting counterfeiters and sellers. I am beginning to believe that they are really after the big fish, since so many fakes abound on the auction sites. My feelings have always been that we are on our own and can only arm ourselves (and others) with information. But I like the idea. With all of the smart people on this board, if we put our heads together, we can come up with a plan that can work. For example, keep track for about a week or a month of the number of LV items for sale. Out of those, how many are suspicious or obviously fake? Get a percentage and send it to the Newspapers to get some coverage. Maybe that will light a fire under someone to put a stop to the madness! Something to think about, but it takes work on our part. "2002-10-18 Poupette"

"LET`S BOOT THESE CON ARTISTS OFF eBay||325604"

I can understand why LV is going after the big fish. I read that the majority of the counterfeits are coming from Hong Kong and some parts of Asia (like Thailand). Sometimes it is hard to catch these larva because they can close up shop fast and leave and set up shop elsewhere. I wish we can go to these customers and tell them "hey, it is not worth it!" If you take away the customers, the rats will go away! "2002-10-18 nvancamp"

"LV Babylone||325528"

I've been looking for b-day gift for my wife, and LV Babylone bag (which is well overdue), but have been really paranoid buying anything on e-bay so far. This one auction that is currently running caught my attention by its money-back warranty, including the shipping. I also contacted 3 or 4 past customers of this seller who've bought LV bags from him before, all seem satisfied including one guy who took his to Nieman Marcus and S-F LV store, and a past LV employee. It all seems to check out. I also requested and recieved two more pictures of the inside of the bag. Do I have your blessing to get this one, or do you see any signs of a fake that I've missed? For example, I did not get an answer regarding the supplier of the bags. Also, the seller is running 4 other LV bag auctions in parallel. What do you think?! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewItem&item=970258434 "2002-10-18 Kruzo"

"LV Babylone||325600"

Kruzo, first I think you are very sweet to find a Vuitton bag for your wife! While looking at the bag, I just had to wonder where he got this "straight from the factor" bag and why he is selling it so cheap. First of all, the bag retails for $715 and not the retail price the seller quoted. I would ask the seller: 1) where this item was purchased 2) does the bag come with a store receipt 3) date code so we here can see if the code seems a bit fishy and 4) why the seller is selling the bag at such a cheap price. "2002-10-18 nvancamp"

"LV Babylone||325617"

Are there any more at home like you? Better yet, what does your wife feed you? A man who gifts his wife with Louis Vuitton is a treasure. You are so lucky to have found this web site. Armed with the knowledge that you'll learn here, should you buy on line, your experience will be a positive one. Good luck and don't stop at just one piece of Louis Vuitton,I'm sure your wife will deserve more. "2002-10-18 jimlyn"

"LV Babylone||325629"

I also was interested awhile back in a Louis Vuitton bag this guy was selling. First, he told me in several emails that he would provide the serial number - he never did. He did provide one additional photo. However, no photos of the interior. He refused to email a copy of his receipt - he acted as if I was asking for private information. Over the past month he has auctioned about 8 or 10 Louis Vuitton bags claiming all to be new and authentic. I'm very suspicious when someone offers that many LV's and claims all to be authentic. Think about it, where in the world would this guy get so many brand new, authentic, very expensive Louis Vuitton bags? I ended up not purchasing from this guy. A seller should not be "bothered" by a buyer requesting a copy of the receipt. Also, he never did provide the serial number ... Hum, wonder why? In my opinion he is selling fakes. I can only guess that so far his buyers are not knowledgeable and therefore are not aware they have purchased a fake! Be careful! "2002-10-18 Barb"

"LV Babylone||325741"

I totally agree with LVcrazy. Ask ALL the questions you can (serial #, copy of receipt, source of the item, MORE PICTURES of the actual item... etc). If the seller is willing to answer and help you with the purchase, then it's most likely a green light. I'm in the process of purchasing the LV Ellipse Backpack through E-Bay, and I must've BOTHERED the HECK out of the seller. However, the seller was very patient and kind. Establishing good communication with the seller is very important! "2002-10-19 Lily"

"LV Babylone||325840"

The problem sellers are trying to give you signs. I admit I have missed them on two separate occasions. One problem purchase, the seller said she would email me add'l photos when she got home from work and she never did. The other problem seller seemed very offended at the fact that I questioned the authenticity. The purse was authentic but had other issues that her offensiveness was hiding. If people are difficult before the purchase, imagine how bad they will be after the purchase. "2002-10-19 bett1e"

"LV Babylone||325904"

Amen to that! "2002-10-19 Carol"

"HELP!!!||325910"

Hi, I am trying to file fraud charges against a seller. I bought what I thought was an Authentic LV and it is fake. The listing is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=964687158 I went to the LV store and they don't (as everyone has said) give anything in writing...how do I report w/ documentation when the store doesn't give any? I did get a business card. Also, I just looked at the listing and now this seller is "not a registered user" do you think it is because of this dispute or that she did it to try to get out of refunding me? HELP! "2002-10-19 leichan"

"HELP!!!||325954"

Hi Leichan, Angie has gone to a lot of work addressing this exact problem. Go to this web site's homepage and click link for Fraud Prevention. On the right-hand side is what to expect from eBay. On the left are a bunch of useful links you need to get into. Please read all of this thoroughly. In the meantime: 1. Do you still having shipping items bag came in? This can give return address & fingerprints which is evidence in filing claims. 2. Print out a copy of your auction, noting date auction closed. 3. When working with eBay, clock starts ticking day auction closes. 4. Read eBay's section on Fraud Prevention thoroughly found by hitting the Safe Harbor link at end of auction. 5. Take pictures of the bag: exterior--from all angles, bottom of bag & interior shots. This is proof you have had bag in your possession. Comes in handy if you ship back to seller in reimbursement claim. Also, photos are evidence. If you can't take the pictures, have someone do it for you. This is going to keep you busy, but all of this is your starting point. Please read Angie's links I mentioned & also eBay's Safe Harbor links. Then get back to us. "2002-10-19 Carol"

"HELP!!!||326359"

Hi leichan, another possible solution to your problem would be Angie's authentication service. There is a link to it on the web site. Angie does written authentications upon examining the bag. "2002-10-20 Carol"

No, you haven't. Just looked at the auction. I would not consider it at all because: 1. it is offered by a seller with no feedback & 2. picture seller uses is from another web site. Not Kosher! You don't know what your getting when seller does this. "2002-10-20 Carol"

"Monogram Babylone Authentic?||325542"

Sorry for the cross post -- I posted this in Urgent Help section before realizing there is a dedicated thread to ask Carol! I've been looking for b-day gift for my wife, an LV Babylone bag (which is well overdue), but have been really paranoid buying anything on e-bay so far. "Monogram Babylone Authentic?||325614"

Hi, don't be concerned seller has different LV auctions going simultaneously. It's when they are selling a lot of the same thing that causes Carol's red flag to go to full mast. Regarding this Babylone--it's beautiful and I'm glad you got extra pictures of the interior. We also need the date code, and a picture of the bottom of the bag. I realize the others took bags bought from this seller to Neiman Marcus, and I think you said LV in SF and that's fine. The thing is, did they talk with LV Managers? In my experience, that unless you talk to an LV Manager, many salespeople do not have the expertise to authenticate w/100% certainty. I do not mean that as a slur--they just need more time under their belts. The seller of this bag represents it as brand new, and is selling with a "Buy It Now" option of $490. Seller also mentions retail list price of $590. That figure is incorrect. Retail for a new Babylone in a LV store or on eLuxury.com is $715 before tax. How can the seller afford Buy It Now @ $490? Take a look at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=968748757. It is not new, but in very good condition. I'd be curious what you think. By the way, you can delete his duplicate postings by selecting “Delete” from the top of the board and entering the post #. Check first to see if some has already replied before deleting. Let me hear from you. "2002-10-18 Carol"

"Monogram Babylone Authentic?||325900"

Thanks for your reply. I am trying to attach two more interior pictures I've recieved. Here are the (hope it works) http://home.attbi.com/~rtrm/LV/59.jpg http://home.attbi.com/~rtrm/LV/57.jpg Regarding my qestion about the sources I was told that "About where i get my LV items, well...i can't realy tell, but what i can tell you is this is the last run of them on eBay because i'm almost sold out and the supplier is going out off bussines" Regarding the serial/date code number I was also told that: "There's a serial code stamped inside the bag, all my LV products have one serial number" As I said, all 4 or 5 people I contacted, the previous customers, seem to be happy with their LV purchases from this guy. One of them took it to LV SF and NM, one other claims to be former LV employee, and the 3rd one sais she has "many" LV bags so she can compare. Finally, about the price -- I know, the price at LV for Babylone is $715. However, if bought in europe, especially w/o WAT, the price COULD be less. Obviously it is confusing why he would not advertise the retail price of $715, but I don't think that alone will stop me. "2002-10-19 Kruzo"

"Monogram Babylone Authentic?||325908"

I have looked at the pictures, and they do not change my opinion. Forget European prices, etc. Seller has given you BIGGEST clue of all by saying..."About where i get my LV items, well...i can't realy tell, [This is B.S.] but what i can tell you is this is the last run of them on eBay because i'm almost sold out and the supplier [THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SUPPLIER OF LV; NO WHOLESALE; NO WAY]is going out off bussines" [THIS GUY IS FEEDING YOU A LINE OF DOG DOO!!] Nothing he tells you about serial code means anything, because the scammers put a serial code/date code in their bags, too. Please, please notice he did NOT tell you what the date code is. Please reconsider purchasing this bag, for if you do, you will not be getting legitimate product! "2002-10-19 Carol"

"Monogram Babylone Authentic?||326136"

I agree with Carol. As I stated in an earlier post, I too had contact with this guy. He will NOT provide the date code. Ask yourself, if the bag is authentic why not provide the date code? He is definitely selling fakes. The previous buyers you contacted apparently are not LV knowledgeable. Possibly the personal they spoke with at the LV counters are also not knowledgeable. SUPPLIER, I don't think so. There is no such animal. I realize it is hard to pass up what you really want to believe is an authentic LV for such a low price. However, regain your objectivity..... this guy is telling you he is selling fakes!!! Don't buy!!! "2002-10-20 Barb"

Could you help and take a look at these items? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=970526711 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=971184393 "2002-10-19 sinhl"

"Which one to get?||325882"

Hi Sinhl, I've looked at both of your auctions. The 1st one # 970526711 is bogus--because of the far right picture showing little white LV round tag! Popular marking of counterfeit bags coming out of the Orient. DO NOT BID! To give seller benefit of the doubt, she may actually think she has authentic bag. The 2nd one # 971184393 is a Buy It Now @ ($550?, that's close.) This bag brand new out of the store retails at $685, before tax. I turned upside down to read date code (I'm very dedicated!) and the date code is fine. Considering this bag was made last year, if I were the buyer, I'd use Buy It Now before everyone else comes to their senses and notices this bag. I feel it is a good one. Let me know what you decide to do. "2002-10-19 Carol"

"Which one to get?||325992"

Hi Carol, I've also noticed that the first (# 970526711) bag's strap length is longer than an "authentic" bag. Thank you for turning upside down to verify the date code on the second item (# 971184393). If you're the buyer, which of these two items would you prefer to buy? and how can you tell when a bag was manufacture/made? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=971184393 (date code SD1011) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=969515372 (date code SD0062) Thank you. "2002-10-19 sinhl"

"Which one to get?||326023"

This is a tough one. I went into # 971184393 again (the one I turned upside down on) and looked at seller's feedback. Seller has 3 negatives out of 29 feedbacks. The 3 negatives are doozies: 1. accused of selling fake bag-this auction is still in dispute; 2. & 3. as a buyer for being a non-paying bidder. I don't like the sounds of this no matter how much I like the bag. On auction # 969515372 looks promising, datecode is good. I'd like more pictures, because the sole picture seller uses in auction makes the bottom of the bag looked slumped--I wonder why? Seller's description sounds good. As buyer, I'd want to know if seller would provide a moneyback guarantee. I wish I could explain my understanding of datecodes, but I have given my word not to divulge what I have been taught. Please do not mistake this for a territorial issue (because it sounds like one). It is a promise to LV, because the fewer people who understand them, the better. The people who communicate on this Bulletin Board have a vested interest and also a love for the LV product. The Bulletin Board participants would not share information with individuals with ulterior motives. BUT we must consider that we are not the only people who look at the total web site. If you wish to discuss this further, please email me. I am sorry I cannot answer the question which peaks the curiosity of many. "2002-10-19 Carol"

"eBay# 970363194||325961"

I E-MAILED THE SELLERS CONCERNING YOUR QUESTIONS ON THE eBay ITEMS THAT I HAD SENT TO YOU. ONE HAS ANSWERED (#970363194). THE NEW PICTURE DOES NOT HELP!, BUT THE SERIAL/DATE# IS 863 LOCATED JUST ABOVE THE LOUIS VUITTON MADE IN FRANCE STAMP. "2002-10-19 SOPHIA1212"

"eBay# 970363194||325976"

863 is not a date code, unless this Pochette Clefs was made long time ago. The date code is 6 alphanumeric characters...1st 2 characters are letters, the last 4 are digits. In Pochette Clefs, this will be inside by the stitching of a seam. Seller may need flashlight to see it. If authentic, it should be there. "2002-10-19 Carol"

"eBay# 970363194||326028"

Hi, Carol here again. I was just looking through Angie's Honorable Mention Sellers and noticed Momofeli has a very good Pochette Accessories for sale. If interested, click on Recommended Sellers. Honorable Mention link is on lower left of that page. "2002-10-19 Carol"

"eBay# 970363194||326045"

863 can be legitimate date code. Date code in not always 6 alphanumeric characters ( first two are letters followed by 4 numbers ).....it can be 3 digits followed by with two letters, or four digits followed by two letters, etc. Those exceptions are only found in older models. It's hard to determine if Pochette clefs is authentic without better pictures showing more details.( #970303194 ) But Yes, the recent made pochette clefs usually have date code as Carol described. "2002-10-19 sam"

"eBay# 970363194||326059"

6 character datecodes with 2 letter & 4 digits are from the early 90s on. The type Sam mentions are from very late 70s/early 80s until early 90s. Thank you, Sam! "2002-10-19"

HI CAROL: THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVISE ON THE POCHETTE. BUT, I AM SO DEFLATED ABOUT TRYING TO FIND THE HANDBAG(S) THAT I LIKE AND NOT GET "ROOKED". I HEARD BACK ABOUT THE KEY/CHANGE HOLDER AND SHE DECLARES THAT SHE IS CORRECT AND HAS PURCHASED SEVERAL LV ITEMS AND THIS ITEM WAS TAKEN INTO LV IN THE BOCA RATON TOWN CENTER SHOPPING MALL FOR A NEW KEY FOB EVEN THOUGH IT DID NOT NEED ONE (DID IT TO MATCH LIKE NEW CONDITION OF PURSE). I AM IN THE PROCESS OF PURCHASING A MUSSETTE "SALSA" AND SHE SAYS THAT SHE IS HAVING TROUBLE CASHING A BANK CHECK AND WILL SEND IT BACK IF I PAY BY "BIDPAY" WHICH I REFUSE TO DO AFTER MY OTHER "FIASCO". HOWEVER, THEN SHE WILL SEND THE HANDBAAG AND BANK CHECK!! I DID NOT JUST FALL OFF THE TURNIP TRUCK! "2002-10-19 SOPHIA1212"

Hi Carol: Urgent opinion on an Alma bag on eBay -- item #97146356. Date stamp looks right on from what I can tell...but I only own a Speedy and a Cruiser Bag. What bothers me is "date stamp is inside the inner pocket" -- that sounds fishy. Thanks a million. "2002-10-20 Gail"

"Authentic backpack or not?||324069"

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=968200350&rd=1 I found the same date code used on a different bag on eBay. Do you think if the bag is a real LV and the date code(SP0081) is valid? I found the same date code used on a different bag on eBay. Thanks "2002-10-15 rosalie"

"Authentic backpack or not?||324106"

Yes, it is quite possible for two bags, even different bags, to have the same date code. "2002-10-15 Poupette"

"Is this unusual?||324911"

Hi, please take a look at this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=970587316 Why are the LV layout are different on both sides? There is 4 LV logo on one side and only 1 LV logo on the other. I think that is unusual. What do you think? "2002-10-17 Joyce"

"Is this unusual?||324916"

Hello, I have the smaller version of the papillon bag and I did a study on it. The larger size comes with a pouch and the LVs are around the four corners of the side. However, the smaller papillon has one LV right in the middle. From what I can tell, this auction does not seem real because the papillon should be a perfect circle. It's not crooked like the one showned in the picture. Especially when it is new. Besides, if the seller uses "borrowed" picture/pictures from other listings or from eluxury, that brings up questions. I don't believe this item is authentic. "2002-10-17 weiwei"

"Is this unusual?||324917"

Sorry, my last message wan't very clear. I was trying to say that the larger size has four LVs around the corners of the sides (both sides). The smaller size has only one LV right in the middle on boths sides of the bag. "2002-10-17 weiwei"

"Is this unusual?||324948"

I just purchased a large Papillon at Vuitton not too long ago and I can say that the sides of the bag in that auction do not match mine. "2002-10-17 nvancamp"

"Is this unusual?||324978"

I agree. Bogus! "2002-10-17 Carol"

"No Rivet On D-Ring Tag?||325775"

I recently purchased a Damier Broadway bag from LV/NM. I am wondering why the D-ring tag on my bag does not have a rivet - my friends tell me their LV D-ring tags all have rivets. Thanks, Denise "2002-10-19 Denise"

"No Rivet On D-Ring Tag?||325817"

First of all, what is LV/NM? All D-ring tabs I have seen, have the rivets. I'd call the store to see if LV is doing something different with the Damier bags. "2002-10-19 Carol"

"No Rivet On D-Ring Tag?||325829"

LV/NM is Louis Vuitton (at) Neiman Marcus. The date stamp is found on the backside of one of the front straps and is TH0072. I inquired at the LV web site a few days ago but have not received a response. Certainly, the bag should be authentic but am curious as to this discrepancy. Thanks. "2002-10-19 Denise"

"No Rivet On D-Ring Tag?||325874"

Thanks for clarifying LV/NH for me. Now that I understand location of purchase, along w/your date code; I really do not doubt authenticity of your bag. If LV gets back in touch with you on the rivet, please let me know. "2002-10-19 Carol"

"Reputable E-bay sellers???||323232"

I found two LV reputable sellers from E-bay (according to their feedback history, and statements on authenticity guaranteed.) Can anyone check these two items and sellers out and tell me what questions I should I ask to reassure me of their honesty before I place bids? 1) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=967770802&rd=1 2) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=968989225&rd=1 Thank you so much!!! "2002-10-13 Lily"

"Reputable E-bay sellers???||323322"

I would trust both of these sellers for authentic LV. "2002-10-14 Poupette"

"Monceau kept away or for all2see||325224"

People with the $1,000.00 and over bags. Do you use them everyday, special occasions, are you nervous with the bag. I am just curious. I have a used Monceau in NEW condition that I absolutely fear taking anywhere. I used it one day to go to Saks and verify it's authenticity and I kept it in the trunk and took my wallet with me for fear someone would snatch it. I am really stressing over this purse. Should I keep it in the closet just to keep me from buying another one? Should I only take it to safe places which I would have to determine before each trip? Do I carry it every day and hope no one realizes it is a $1,000.00 purse? or should I just give up and just resell it? Any thoughts . . . I am more of a cute purse $100.00 or less person. Most of my purses are very stylish but are not considered investments by no means. "2002-10-17 bettle"

"Monceau kept away or for all2see||325234"

I know this woman who I see at the post office every week who carries her Monceau 24-7. It is in beautiful shape. I saw if you spend that kind of money on a bag, you should use it and it should be seen! I have a couple of Hermes bags that I rotate and use. They are over $3K and I know if I damage it, I can take it to Hermes and get it repaired. "2002-10-17 nvancamp"

"Monceau kept away or for all2see||325254"

This may be a little bit personal but I am curious . . . Does anyone ever approach you and say I love that Hermes bag or do they just say I like your purse? I am just curious if anyone knows who is carrying a Hermes. Of course, I understand that you may have a social circle that would know so the answer probably is an easy one for you. For us everyday purse carrying folk, I am just curious. "2002-10-17 bett1e"

"Monceau kept away or for all2see||325304"

Bettie, I say, enjoy your bag. Use it whenever you like. It shows your good taste and your sophistication. Be proud and take it with you, but protect it like a child. "2002-10-17 Poupette"

"Monceau kept away or for all2see||325370"

Use your bag and enjoy it. Isn't that why you bought it in the first place? You are not running a museum, look but don't touch!!! I love my Louis Vuitton bags and I would lose a part of myself if I couldn't use them every day. I agree, they are expensive and need some protecting. Let's face it, today we are more aware of the dangers in every day life, so be aware of your surroundings at all times, whether you have a designer bag on your arm or not. It is more important, now more than ever, that all North Americans not be afraid to live our lives and enjoy the finer things in life. To give yourself some form of assurance, be sure to photograph and document your LV bag or bags and be sure they are covered in your home insurance policy. My insurance company told me to photograph and doucment mine and I do have a special rider in my home insurance policy to cover theft or loss which was very reasonably priced. "2002-10-18 jimlyn"

"Monceau kept away or for all2see||325512"

I agree with all of you. Use it, it's lovely!! Don't leave it in the trunk of your car--people break into cars all the time. If someone tries to snatch your Monceau, hit them with it! LVs are very durable!! "2002-10-18 Carol"

"Monceau kept away or for all2see||325529"

Thanks everyone. I'll have to give it some more thought. "2002-10-18 bettle"

"Monceau kept away or for all2see||325586"

Bett1e, lyn and Angie could not have said it better! I wish I lived close to you so I could admire your beautiful Monceau. Btw, I personally would pick a Vuitton bag over Hermes any time! My Hermes bags are at the consignment store. I am hoping to use the money to 1) get a new roof for my parents home and 2)buy a Vuitton piece of luggage and cosmetic train case (I forgot what you call those things). You are lucky to have the Monceau. It is SO RARE to see that bag!!! "2002-10-18 nvancamp"

"Monceau kept away or for all2see||325602"

Thanks. This was just a dream purse which was made possible by a new mommy on eBay who needed a bigger purse. I got a GREAT deal and thought the purse wouldn't be so nice since it was used. It is just so nice I hate to mess it up. I bought a used bucket that needed some darkness to hide undisclosed seller stains. Well, it is darkening quite nicely and I am weighing down the interior with old clothes to get out the bends and pretty soon I antipate carrying the bucket everyday and the LV on Sundays and maybe on my dressy, dressy silk suit days of work. Funny, everyone I see selling the Monceau on eBay said the same thing. They only carried the purse on important business occasions and social events. Funny, how a purse has to be coddled. "eBay acquires PayPal||325947"

eBay has acquired PayPal. I have mixed feelings about this. What are your thoughts on this? "2002-10-19 Carol"

"eBay acquires PayPal||325955"

For some reason, I don't feel good about this. I liked the idea of having two lines of defense for schemers. If you dispute a PayPal charge, your dispute will likely end up being one dispute instead of the two it had been, one with eBay and one for fraudulent charges. "2002-10-19 bett1e"

"eBay acquires PayPal||325977"

I agree. I also see it as loaded with potential conflict of interest issues "2002-10-19 Carol"

"eBay acquires PayPal||326033"

I am not too happy about this also. It was nice having the Billpoint option. I personally do not like PayPal. I guess money orders will be my only option next year as my method of payment. "2002-10-19 nvancamp"

"eBay acquires PayPal||326042"

I always have had success with PayPal. I have used Bidpay as well. I have never used Billpoint, only because I used PayPal instead. I'm not sure what I'm going to do now. "2002-10-19 Carol"

"eBay acquires PayPal||326112"

I dont know what to think about this for now. I always prefer using Papal whenever i win auctions - first its very convenient, second is quick and easy and lastly there's no additional fees to pay (not like BidPay). I just hope eBay wouldn't make big changes and still keep it a "free" service. "2002-10-20 uncreated"

"eBay acquires PayPal||326188"

My guess is that eBay will keep PayPal free for purchasers. I think if anyone bears the brunt of this, it will be the sellers. "2002-10-20 Carol"

"Stolen Goods||325956"

eBay's biggest problem, even though most don't want to admit it IS hot items. eBay has become the street. 20/20 or somebody did a story on the stupidity of people. A man stole a bunch of electronics from a store. People were paying like $500.00 for a camera that they could have bought at the store for $169.99. By selling it on eBay, what is the likelihood of the police recovering the goods for the rightful owner - NONE. Buyers need to think clearly about a person selling the same type of item in quanties, either the item is stolen or counterfeit. I run across one or two name brand clothes items a month, not 5 of the same items every day. People don't want to admit the items are hot because then you are admitting you have stole something from someone. "2002-10-19 bett1e"

"LV Christmas Wish List||326061"

Have any of you thought about which LV you want to find under the tree Christmas morning? Hanukkah is included as well!! It is never too early to think about the Holidays! Let's hear you sound off about your wishes. I've already started my stategy by printing off pictures from eLuxury and placing them in my husband's briefcase. (No, I am not subtle. My husband does not understand subtle. The "in your face" approach works better for me!) I've also transferred some pix to his PDA So start your personal Holiday list with us on the Bulletin Board. It can be a keycase or a Pegase. "2002-10-19 Carol"

"LV Christmas Wish List||326098"

Where do I begin? Here's my Christmas Wish list, Carol, but don't forget to tell us your wish list as well. You never know when we might see Santa and put in a good word for you. I would like some accessories, a Poche toilette...10inch,pg.40, a Porte-cartes credit precession,(pg64) and the Pochette clefs (pg.65) and since I now need reading glasses, I would love to have a Etui a lunettes rabat(pg.66). I also wish for a few bags as well. I would like the Cabas Piano,pg. 44 and the Cite MM. My ultimate wish to Santa would be to have the Lancelot, pg. 169, made in Monogram Canvas for me. I guess I should think about being sweet and adorable for the next few months. It's hard work, but I know I can do it if it means Santa bringing me my wish list!!! "2002-10-20 jimlyn"

"LV Christmas Wish List||326116"

What a clever way to "drop hints" so-to speak Carol. I guess it works for you. I've yet to find someone to buy me stuff. Anyways, here's my humble wishlist: the whole Taiga Ardoise line! "2002-10-20 uncreated"

"LV Christmas Wish List||326152"

I just got one of my Christmas presents early which is the monogram petite Noé (Angie, I had to get one since you said the Noé is your favorite bag). So....on my Christmas WISH list: monogram babylone, monogram bel air, or the monogram 10 speedy. I would also like to have a monogram small cosmetic case and those Vuitton sneakers! I would also like to have one of their cashmere coats too! "2002-10-20 nvancamp"

"LV Christmas Wish List||326184"

As I said, I'm not subtle. Tell me, what does the Taiga "Ardoise" line look like? I want to know, because I'm ignorant when it comes to Taiga. Eluxury.com has Taiga but they don't use the word Ardoise. Tried to get on www.vuitton.com, but their system was down when I tried. "2002-10-20 Carol"

"LV Christmas Wish List||326194"

PLEASE put in a good word to Santa for me. I've been very bad this year. I have a Monogram Sac Plat in the closet about which my poor husband knows nothing. (The right time to present it has yet to arise!) Lyn, you asked about my list--like you, I'd like the 10" Poche Toilet Cosmetic Case and the Etui a Lunettes Rabat. I'm afraid my eyeglasses would fall out of the regular Monogram case. I really like your idea of the Monogram Lancelot. That would make a stunning bag. I like the idea that it zips closed. Also would love to have the large Mono. Ellipse. I am just starting to learn about Damier. Several months ago Angie's Recommended Seller "christinascloset" sold a gorgeous Damier Speedy w/light leather. I had never really noticed Damier before that. It was a special order so it went for about $250 over regular Speedy retail. I would adore having that bag but with the chocolate leather!! Enough about me, Lyn your list is yummy and I hope Santa makes your Christmas dreams come true!! "2002-10-20 Carol"

"LV Christmas Wish List||326196"

The 3 bags you listed are classics, so lovely!! I've seen the sneakers, cute. Someone on eBay is taking Mono. fabric and having custom-made Dr. Scholl's. Have you seen those? If they make the sneakers or Dr. Scholl's for their own use, that's OK, but I think they may run into problems eventually by selling them to the public. I'm using the same reasoning as when one embroiders Mickey Mouse on a t-shirt for personal use, but runs into copyright problems when they put the t-shirt on the market. "2002-10-20 Carol"

"LV Christmas Wish List||326287"

Hello Carol. The Taiga line comes in 3 colours - Epiéa (evergreen), Acajou (burgundy) and Ardoise(slate grey). Its the Ardoise-coloured bags that you see the male models carry in the LV web site. I like the rather understated style of Taiga Ardoise. I just love them! "2002-10-20 uncreated"

"LV Christmas Wish List||326311"

Thank you for your reply, for when it comes to Taiga, I'm ignorant. As I type, I am looking at the Taiga section of Le Catalogue. Colors are listed in very tiny light gray letters at lower left. Is Taiga strictly for men or could women carry the burgundy? "2002-10-20 Carol"

"LV Christmas Wish List||326347"

Hi carol. I believe the Taiga range is basically designed for men but not necessarily so. If youre looking for LV luggage to take with you abroad and afraid that the LV monogram is too conspicuous (i've heard horror stories of Pegases and even Keepalls not showing up on the conveyer belts in airports) These bags are less attention-grabbing. The larger pieces, especially in Acajou such as the Helanga is perfect for a weekend trip, it even fits a winter wardrobe! The smallest i have - Cassiar Ardoise, probably the mallest of the city bags is still to big for a lady. Its all depends on the user i guess. But dont ask me about how to spot fakes - i dont know much to be quite sure. "2002-10-20 uncreated"

"Opinions on Damier Sauvage?||323211"

I'm considering getting a Gazelle cross body bag since its pretty uncommon and its looks really cute. But I've never owned a damier sauvage bag before and was wondering if it is as durable as canvas or leather, will the hair shed? "2002-10-13 Calypso"

"Opinions on Damier Sauvage?||323746"

I have not owned the Damier Sauvage, either. It seems a rather high maintenance bag and I can't see how it could be as durable as canvas. Would be interested in opinions of those who own one. You could also call LV and ask their opinion...but let us know! It is definitely a unique bag. "2002-10-14 Poupette"

"Opinions on Damier Sauvage?||323882"

yeah, its one of the cutest LV bags I've seen, I'm still deciding between this & Gucci messenger, the latter is more practical whereas the LV is too darn cute. I'll post my thoughts of it if I do get it. "2002-10-15 Calypso"

"BLUE epi Saint-Jacques poignees longues?||323230"

Hi, what a wonderful web site! I have just bought a blue epi Saint-Jacques poignees longues. After I bought and paid for it I purchased a Japanese magazine with showed all the available and discountinued styles. I didn't find the one I bought (not in blue). According to the magazine the item was not ever made in blue! Please let me know what you think about this matter. I will receive the bag by Wednesday. I don't really want to go to the LV boutique to get it checked because most of the sales people there aren't very nice. Please help! Thank you. "2002-10-13 weiwei"

"Serial numbers||323454"

thanks so much for offering to answer a question! can you tell me, do all lv bags - even the fake ones - have a serial #? i see so many that say, "with serial #", but they don't say that they are necessarily authentic. i REALLY want the ellipse bag, but i can't decipher who's being honest or not. even some that say authentic, the feedback says that they received fakes! crooks out there! is the inside all one certain color? what shoould i look for when shopping auctions? thank you SO MUCH for your help! "2002-10-14 Tori"

"Serial numbers||323545"

You ask a crucial question. It is not really a serial #, but a date code. LV started putting them in bags around the early to mid-80s. Counterfeitors are aware of this as well & have started putting them in fakes. Scammers will sometimes put catalog #'s in thinking they can fool the public. A true date code is 6 alphanumeric characters starting with two letters ending with 4 digits. Good eBay sellers will often state in auction's description that they will provide date code upon email request. This is an attempt to prohibit scammers from copying actual date codes. Cutting to the chase: once you get the date code, email us & we can tell you if it is a believable date code. Also, rule of thumb, if there is no date code present--do not purchase! (There might be an exception on keycases.) "2002-10-14 Carol"

"Serial numbers||323564"

I forgot to respond to the rest of your questions!! The inside of a genuine Ellipse does not have a special lining. The inside is the reverse side of the monogram canvas, which will be between light & medium brown. The best thing you can do is go to eLuxury LV handbags and open the Ellipse window. Study it. Notice how the symbols on the monogram line up. Another thing I want you to pay very close attention to is the proportion of the handles to the rest of the bag. I think this is very important, since on many of the fake Ellipses I've seen, the handles seem out of proportion to the rest of the bag. If possible, go to a LV store or boutique and look at an Ellipse. Regarding auctions: I look for feedback. I stay away from low feedback sellers mainly because I feel the odds they have the bag are small. Also negative feedback--I really read these. Sometimes negative feedback is incorrectly or prematurely issued. Just because a seller has scads of positive feedback doesn't mean they are accustomed to selling LVs. I take all of this into account. Payment terms--when I see money orders only, first thing I ask is why. The main thing to consider, are seller's payment terms something you can live with? Then I email seller and ask date code, age of bag, are there more pix showing interior & views from all sides. I also ask where they got the bag. I feel these are appropriate requests. If one is not offered, I ask if there is a moneyback guarantee on authenticity. If not, I don't buy for that tells me they are not willing to stand behind their product. Another thing I consider, do they return my emails. For example, this weekend I emailed sellers on 3 different auctions--only heard back from one. Just from lack of replies, I'll scratch them off of my list. "2002-10-14 Carol"

"Noé ||323679"

Hi, is this Noé authentic? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=969288144. As stated in Angie's LV guide the stamping of Noé should be "Louis Vuitton Paris" on one side and the place of manufacture on the other side. But for this auction, both stampings appear on one side. Also, should there be any stamping on the strap? I really want to be more knowledgeable in LV and thatz why I bring up these questions. Thanks! "2002-10-14 Joyce"

"Noé ||323717"

I tend to trust archivals for authentic LV. If there is one thing LV is consistent about, it is change, so I have to say that there are exceptions to the rule. I would accept this bag as authentic and I am glad you asked. "2002-10-14 Poupette"

"Porte-tresor International Question||324019"

I am trying to authenticate a Porte-tresor international wallet. The markings of the monogram canvas match e-luxury's pictures. I cannot find a serial number. What other differences I wonder about are these: the snap closure is reversed when opening. The stem of the closure is on the bottom folded part of the wallet and the head of the snap is on the top fold of the wallet. Could that be an honest error? I also wonder about the lining of this wallet. In the wallet opening where and when the wallet is opened forming a pocket behind the main leather interior, the leather lining (the top flap of interior of the wallet) only goes so far and then the material is synthetic. The main leather interior, currency/paper pocket and credit card opening looks good. "2002-10-15 lynloveslouis"

"mabillon question||324816"

greetings; I am a bit new at this and I ws wondering, what should one expect to pay for a good condition but used Mabillon. Is the discontinued "fawn" color usually more expensive? "2002-10-16 gabrielle"

"mabillon question||324964"

Discontinued items in good condition are typically more expensive. Also, Epi is typically more expensive than Monogram. Really, it depends on the condition of the bag and how badly you want it (versus the other people bidding). Bid the max you can afford to pay for the bag, if you really want it. "2002-10-17 Poupette"

"mabillon question||325001"

thank you. I am trying to be careful and frugal at the same time. this is quite a feat, with unscrupulus sellers out there. some of the prices either start out or go so high that I am tempted to squirrel away some more cash & just get a new one. This was the conclusion I came to about getting a wallet. Fortunately we have a needless-mark-up (neiman-marcus) and a LV store here in houston, so it makes that decision feasible. BTW - I love your site! it has been an invaluable asset - I hope you are aware of what a great service you are providing!!! thank you thank you. "2002-10-17 gabrielle"
